In the case of power steering, a hydraulic pump works, we can also find electrically assisted systems. They are powered by a belt, thanks to which we can generate the appropriate pressure in the pump. Naturally, in a hydraulic pump, as in all systems based on hydraulics, care should be taken to ensure tightness. In the event of leaks, for example a damaged seal, the system may stop working properly, it may also operate in leaps. Of course, irregularities can also be caused by a loose belt.
How are problems with the power steering manifested?
Problems with the steering system can be signaled by the indicator on the dashboard, in this case we can get a signal that there is a problem. This may be due to a drop in pump efficiency, or it may also be information about overheating of the oil. In order for the hydraulic system to work properly, the oil must have the right temperature. In the event of a fault, short circuit, when the pump can work continuously, too high temperature may develop, and it may damage the seal. In case of problems with the pump, we can also feel the power steering cut-off, it may work irregularly, sometimes we may feel increased resistance on the steering wheel.
In some cases, there may also be a complete lack of assistance, then turning the steering wheel will require the application of quite a lot of force. It may be the result of complete damage to the pump, it may be due to the failure of moving parts. Of course, a V-belt may also be broken for one of the reasons. If the power steering pump is damaged, replace it with a new one.
On the website Power steering pump we will find refurbished pumps, in the case of older cars it will be a great idea to replace pump that has failed. Of course, the regenerated pump will have all the necessary properties, it can work without any problems in our car. During regeneration, moving parts are replaced, all damaged parts are replaced with new ones, and the entire system is checked for tightness.
